Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ), is a condition that affects the hinge joint connecting your jaw to your skull, TMJ can cause pain and dysfunction, making everyday activiites like eating, speaking and even yawning challening. If you are experiencing jaw pain you are not alone, with statistics demonstrating that over 10% of Australians have experienced some form of jaw pain in their life.


Common Symptoms

  • Pain and tenderness surrounding the jaw, cheek and ear

  • Difficulty chewing

  • Clicking or grinding

  • Headaches

  • Locking of the jaw


Osteopathic Approach to TMJ pain How can osteopathy help you with your TMJ pain?

The first step in treating TMJ pain is a thorough consulation and assessment to get to the route cause of your pain. As an osteopath, I will evaluate not only the jaw but also the related structures, your cervical spine (neck), thoracic spine (mid back), and even assess your posture. This thorough assessment helps us identify any underlying issues contributing to the TMJ dysfunction.
